Slideshows

Learn how to create slideshow presentations in MerDoc using markdown.

Creating a Slideshow

To create a slideshow presentation, click "New Document" and select "Slideshow" as the document type. Slideshows use markdown syntax with slide separators.

  1. Click "New Document"
  2. Select "Slideshow" from the document type options
  3. Enter a title for your presentation
  4. Write content for each slide
  5. Separate slides using `---` on its own line

Customizing Your Slideshow

You can customize the appearance and behavior of your slideshow using YAML front matter at the beginning of your document. Front matter is optional but provides powerful customization options.

Available Themes

Choose from four professional themes:

  • dark (default) - Dark background with light text, perfect for presentations
  • light - Clean white background with dark text for bright environments
  • minimal - Soft gray background with minimal styling
  • professional - Blue gradient background with professional styling

Available Transitions

Control how slides change:

  • slide (default) - Smooth horizontal movement with fade effect
  • fade - Gentle fade in/out between slides
  • none - Instant slide changes with no animation

# Q4 Business Review

**Presenter:** Jane Smith
**Date:** 2024-12-15

# Welcome

Your first slide content here

# Agenda

- Topic 2
- Topic 3

Note: The front matter block must be at the very beginning of your document, before any slide content. For more details, see the Front Matter Guide.

Slide Separation

Slides are separated by horizontal rules. Use `---` (three dashes) on its own line to create a new slide:

# Slide 1 Title

Content for slide 1

---

# Slide 2 Title

Content for slide 2

Navigation

When viewing a slideshow, you can navigate between slides using:

  • Keyboard: Arrow keys (left/right), Space, or Enter to advance; Arrow Left to go back
  • Mouse: Click anywhere on the slide to advance
  • Controls: Use the navigation buttons at the bottom
  • Quick Navigation: Press Home to jump to the first slide, End to jump to the last

For a complete list of keyboard shortcuts, see the Keyboard Shortcuts documentation.

Fullscreen Mode

Press `f` or click the fullscreen button to enter fullscreen presentation mode. This hides all browser UI for a distraction-free presentation experience.

Slide Counter

The slide counter at the bottom shows your current position (e.g., "3 / 10") to help you keep track during presentations.

Tips for Great Slideshows

  • Keep slides concise - one main idea per slide
  • Use headings to structure slide content
  • Add images and diagrams to make slides more engaging
  • Test navigation before presenting
  • Use fullscreen mode for the best presentation experience
